ADOA (Vic) Inc is the peak body representing dispensing opticians in the state of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia. 
Dispensing opticians are expert in the interpretation of optical prescriptions written by ophthalmologists, optometrists and orthoptists (similar to the relationship between the medical profession and pharmacists). They have a vast knowledge of spectacle frames, lenses, sunglasses, safety eyewear and contact lenses and are trained in the theory and practical application of ophthalmic optics. Many manufacture your spectacles on site as well as doing repairs and adjustments. Some dispensing opticians are employed by large corporations but many are self employed in private practice or are in partnerships with optometrists. Dispensing opticians who are members of ADOA Victoria regularly attend continuing education to keep themselves up to date with all the latest products and advances in eyewear and eye care, so look for the ADOA membership logo when you purchase your next spectacles or contact lenses to ensure you receive the expert advice and care you deserve.
