ADOA is the organisation representing all optical dispensing organisations in Australia, which in turn represents the majority of people practising optical dispensing within the Commonwealth of Australia.
Optical dispensers are the service providers to optometrists and ophthalmologists, (a similar situation as pharmacy is to the medical profession) and are trained in the theory and practical application of ophthalmic optics. Optical dispensers also educate and advise consumers about product choice to provide maximum visual acuity
Key Objectives of the ADOA are to
a) Support and protect the character status and interest of the members of that section of the optical industry which is engaged in the dispensing of optical prescriptions and the manufacture and fitting of spectacles.
b) Raise the status and standing of skill and knowledge of Optical Dispensers and to insure to the public a continuous and adequate supply of trained and competent persons to carry out the dispensing of optical prescriptions and the manufacture and fitting of spectacles.
